Max has staph infection

Hi everyone!
Sorry I haven't been keeping up but the house has become fuller with little Max and wow! I forgot how long it's been since I've had a little puppy to raise. I love every minute of it. From the 4:30 morning outside potties to trying to keep leaves and sticks and grass and everything else he can pick up when we are outside. Two days ago I was playing with him outside and rolled him over to scratch his belly and notice some little yellowish bumps on his belly. I called the vet and he said to wait the weekend out and keep it clean and bring him in today. It didn't bother Max but it bothered me so I know he got tired of "daddy" holding him still so I could wash his belly but I knew it would bother him sooner or later so after the vet today (in which he got so many treats I thought it would ruin his supper so I had to refuse the 5th one the receptionist tried to give him) He was given a antibiotic shot and a 14 day of "augmentin" and a special shampoo. It all bothered me worse than him because after we got home and played alittle outside, he discovered how to bark.lol I think it was the thermometer did it in which the poor little guy was such a good boy. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this with their pups? Not sure how to post pics but as soon as I do, I have so many to share with you all as he grows. No infections, but Indy used to get a rash on his belly. The vet had several theories as to the cause of the rash (fleas, allergies, mites, etc) Indy's rash did NOT improve with medication or sprays (the cortisone spray made him cry actually). His rash went away with a few weeks of walking on pavement and avoiding grass combined with giving him a teaspoon of local honey per day. My diagnosis: grass/weed allergy cured by that all important LOCAL bee products.

So now I recommend to anyone whose dog has a belly rash to try the teaspoon of honey per day. It needs to be from a local bee hive. It won't hurt them any at all, its not expensive, and it worked great for Indy where the pharmaceutical approach failed both my dog and my budget.

Good luck with your baby. Since his was infected, he needs the antibiotics; but I recommend a spoonful of honey to help the medicine go down.

Actually, this is good for people with allergies as well. If the honey is locally produced, you take in the local pollens & you build up antibodies to fight off allergies.

I am so happy things are going well with Max, except for the infection that is. Puppies are such fun. My sheltie Amos had a staph infection also on his belly. I think it bothered me more than him. We did the belly washing,oral antibiotics, and also a spray that I had to put on it. It cleared up fairly quickly and there was never a problem again. Hopefully things will go as well for Max.

Tully had an infection from a cut too when she was a pup. An injection at the vet and bit of betadine on the spot and it never came back. Mind you, she continues to be a little accident prone - too much energy I think.

Isnt it funny when they work out they can bark - Deska never looked back when he started...
