My Fun Day (Our Clubs)

AS I may have mentioned, Our Club is now having a monthly fun Day. the first one was last month and was prepared by our club Trainer It consisted of 2 STD starter level Courses.

Now I have been tasked with putting together OUR second fun day on Mar 26th. For my Day I have been thinking of putting on an INTRODUCTION TO AGILITY GAMES. AS when I got into trialing I had never been exposed to games
and didn't have a clue as to how to go about doing any of them, So I figured this would be a good way of letting the club members get some exposure to games in a fun setting, We will have some prizes though just to keep it interesting.
I have some handouts from the internet that describe the games and stratiges that I plan on Photocopying and handing out and plan on doing a brief intro & question & answer period before we start each game.

Now the club has around 25 members, but of those members only 3 have ever trialed, but most are at a starter level except for a few. I have put together a couple of courses a SNOOKER & a GAMBLERS that I think are at a starter level
for them to try out, I have put in a simple assending spread jump worth 7 points for those that have dogs that can't do the teter yet in the gamblers run but have isolated it somewhat to try and be fair & give everybody an equal opertunity at least I think so..

I have attached a couple of links to my courses Please Have a look at them and tell me what you think, and feel free to offer any suggestions, these are my first drafts, but I am pretty Happy with them.

Heres the Snooker Course
2,4,5,7 are bidirectional in the opening sequence.

And The Gamblers Course
In the gamblers everything is bidrectional except the teter & the assending spred jump

Thanks Robin

Hi Robin!

I think your idea is a great one. We are currently teaching a class that includes teaching how the games work, and people love it!

The snooker course is great...a little tricky--I like that!

I'm a little confused by the gamblers course, of course that could just be because I'm used to USDAA gamblers. But my question would be, why are those jumps labeled 1A, 1B, and 1C? And then, what is the gamble? I see the line but not sure what the dog has to do on the other side (I've never seen a table in a gamble before!)

The 1a, 1b 1c, jumps are a sequence set, worth 5 points and like a contact obstical could be used twice in theory but not back to back you would have to do something else in between., the Gamble is one jump ,the tire and the table, our rules say its allowed ??? I might have to rethink that one., the dog only has to get up on the table and stay to stop the clock, no sit or down required. the jump at the top of the gamble is actually outside the gamble line and is supposed to act as a lead in to the gamble to get the dog flowing into the gamble area , at least I think that's how it is supposed to work. very few of these people have ever worked there dogs at a distance so this ones gonna be interesting to say the least.

IMHO, and take it for whatever you think it's worth ;P

I think the snooker one is on the hard side. You're going to have to do a lot of threadles no matter where you go. Maybe spread out the reds a bit so it's easier. Remember, these people are big time novices. Don't make them hate the games. ;)

As for the gamble, since most of them are newbies, I'd put them a LOT closer to the line. According to your course map, the line is almost 10 feet away. I'd put it at 5 feet.

Like I said, make them succeed and have fun with it. You know better the level of the members. Make it so that most of them will succeed. I can tell you this much, I'd fail the Gamblers for sure, lol. But then again, we suck.

Otherwise, I think this is a great idea and lots of fun. At this weekends practice my club is doing USDAA games in prep for our USDAA trial next month that we're hosting. I love that they are doing that. Snookers is confusing no matter the venue. lol. So, have fun with the games. Make it fun for them too. Not too hard. ;) Hey....if they all feel it's WAY too easy, it's not like you can't move things to make it harder on them.

You know, Cheryl makes a lot of good points. From a beginner's perspective, that snooker course is really hard.

I have several starters snooker maps if you'd like me to I could scan a couple in and post them (or email them to you).

Also, the gamble doesn't look too bad (but maybe scoot it in closer) except for the table. Keep in mind that stopping your dog's motion makes it doubly hard to keep them moving away from you. Normally starters gambles includes tunnels and jumps. I can scan/email you some if you'd like, just to get an idea.

Thanks for the input.
I was thinking of closeing the Gamble to 5 or 6 feet and dropping the table, I might do jump tunnel tire instead. I do have some starter snooker Maps to look at so I might change that one up too.
I just put those together here at work while watching some students do a makeup exam.

that what I was thinking too. Most dogs love tunnels and would be easier to send to tunnel for the gamble. I have put high value in the table and can send Che over several obstacles to the table without me being present but I have specifically trained him for that and have observed that majority of people do have to run with the dog, it is not something beginners are usually taught to do...
