My Riley Bear - Thyroid Problem?

So i posted a thread about Riley, my Sheltie that turned 2 yesterday, and all of the problems with aggression I have been having lately. I had a couple people post back about thyroid problems and started to look into it a little bit more. This makes a lot of sense because I know it is common among Shelties and he has a reoccurring rash that I have not been able to find a cause of. Is there any way that someone can tell me if this sounds accurate and how to test. Also some information on test costs and medication costs would be great as well!

The testing is probably a couple hundred dollars, the meds are cheap.

I have a dog with one of those rashes, he ended up being sensitive to chicken. Removed chicken, rash went away. It comes back sometimes, and I rinse him in 50/50 vinegar and water after his bath, and that usually clears it up.

Many Shelties go undiagnosed for years. The symptoms often don't manifest themself until the pups get older. But the bloodwork will still reveal it.

In some cases, we do blood work on pups for other reasons, and it reveals thyroidism.

It is common and I would recommend all Sheltie owners to test their dogs from 3 years on. That's my personal advice.

For those that have suspicion, go ahead and test. It is very treatable. The meds cost me about $60 a quarter.
