Interesting info on why some vets are so stuck on certain foods. My vet is a close personal friend and this is what he told me. Certain food companies give the clinics HUGE discounts to push their foods. They also offer certain incentives like credits to the vet who prescribes or recommends their food...things like college certification credits. Regardless of the ingredients or the dogs outcome on that food. All of my dogs have special needs and most of them were on Iams special diets and had NO change in their illness. One of them even got worse. I changed to a Holistic food and three of my dogs improved immensely. After seeing the difference in my dogs health and bloodwork he now recommends it instead of all these special diets many other vets highly recommend. One dog has allergies out trhe wazoo...he is allergic to everything (4 pages of allergies found) and he was cut back dramatically on his allergy meds. He srill needs an occasional Temerik, but not the huge amount he used to take.
As was stated, do what you feel is best for your dog. You know your dog better then the vet since the vet is not with the dog 24/7
