needing to lick his collar

We have our 2 boys. They have now hit the 6 month mark. Their behaviors change all the time, but one behavior has me wondering what is going on inside Ollies head. When I take the training collar off of him he always needs to lick it. I'm sure there probably isn't a correct answer for this, but am just curious as to what others might think of this little quirk.

I could take off any of our 3 dogs collars, and they will do the same, especially Earnhardt. He has done it for years.

It's almost like he's making sure I know that it's his~

If I take his or Trapp & Jaspers off to say have a bath or something, they are always glad to put it back on after the bath, but not before licking it.

Your lucky that your boys don't snitch or pull off each others collars,as Trapp was the notorious collar snatcher. He would literally pull Ernies off,and take off with it.

My dogs are the same way - take off the collar and they have to lick it two or three times before I take it away. I usually tell them, 'thank you for cleaning your collar.' just to be funny.

I didn't notice mine doing this. I just took off Dandie's to give her a bath and both Chloe and Dandie, back out of the collar quickly like they are saying "get this stupid thing off of me."

Deja checks to make sure it's her collar before she lets me put it on her. She sniffs it and if she hasn't had it on in a while she will lick it.
