New Foster dog Shelby

Our sweet Shelby came last night at about 5:30. She was very afraid for the first few minutes so I crated all of the dogs and just allowed her to roam around with her mama still here. She settled some so I did the required paperwork for her owner and we sat and talked for a while so Shelby could adjust to my home. She was one year old on April 12th. Weighs about 15 pounds and is just the sweetest little girl.

Then the fun started..... I knew she had been in the car for about an hour to be transported to my home so I took her outside to potty on a 6 ft drag leash. Well, everyone else wanted to go out too so here we go all six dogs out to potty in the back yard. Shelby did very well for the first few minutes then she went over to the pool pad. I don't know exactly what happened and I was standing about 3 feet away from her. She looked down at the water in the pool and proceeded to jump right in. Then she panicked.. Started trying to get out the same way she got in over the side. They can't pull themselves up on the side of the pool. So I kicked off my sandals and went to the steps trying to get her to come to me. No dice... She was too panicked so into the pool I went fully clothed. As soon as I entered the water she stopped flailing her legs and allowed me to show her where the steps were so she could get out on her own... So now she's soaked and I'm soaked to the waist... Whew if I had had the slightest idea that she would have jumped in the pool I would have held on to the leash. Oh well, everything is fine now and she is giving the pool lots of respect this morning.

So here's Shelby

About a year ago I was almost able to adopt a tri-color Sheltie named Shelby from a rescue group...but someone else got her.
Beautiful dog.
:smile2:

poor Shelby, that must have been a rude discovery for her!

My parent's sheltie had a similar run in with a pool, one minute he was standing, looking in, then he just jumped in. He respected the pool a whole lot more after that.!

Shelby is a pretty little thing, I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding a new forever home for her :smile2:

What a cute girl!! I just don't understand how people give up their dogs. At least they did it in a responsible manner. Very cute! I would take her if my husband wouldn't throw a fit and I was closer!

omigosh! I love her! She has such a sweet face! And I love the little white circle on her. How come she needed to be rescued? They just couldn't keep her anymore?

What a cutie !!

You are an angel to little Shelby. I do wish you the best in finding Shelby a forever home. I couldn't do your job because I'd be in divorce court. I wouldn't be able to give them up.:uhoh:

How lucky Shelby is! Layla wound up slimed in a frog pond doing that exact same thing. Either she thought the lily pads were solid or she thought all water was a puddle!
