New habits....

so Che was found to be sensitive to walking on the leash on the busy crowded streets, pulling on the leash, running after cars and attempting to bark at them... and here I though he was perfect angel ...LOL
so we started new program ... every morning pup and I go to the busy street to watch cars, he gets a kibble treat every time car passes us by... needless to say pup decide he likes this program and now he turns toward busy street on his own every morning. After several days of doing this we seems to be progressing- every time car passes by pup is turning his head towards me with this cute expression "Where is my treat for being good?"
this might be expensive habit considering automobile industry production...

Good job catching this behavior and turning it around! Boo, my in-law's Sheltie has the same issue. It would go insane when a car went by. They fought it by pulling on the leash and saying 'no' for a month before having their trainer telling them to do exactly what you did with Sca. It took months to change the behavior because of how long it took to start addressing it.

good job!!

Its about time to do it on the move..keep walking and treat..kinda like chewing gum and skipping at the same time..LOL

I did this with Deska and I wonder now if it encouraged his car chasing behaviour to develop. He loves watching cars and will often stop to watch them - and I know he is doing this in the hope of getting a treat for not barking at it (he does the same with bicycles). Deska will try anything for a treat and I guess if it turns out to be fun, he will keep doing it.

update on our car training...

so by now we have been walking every morning along the busy street.... by now Che is heeling most of the time he is walking this street... I did not set out to teach him heeling on the busy street but that is what happened... he is not fazed by running cars anymore and heels pretty nicely, looking for his kibble, since it is early morning and he is hungry, his kibble works as high value treat ...
now we need to start going to the busy mall parking to work on meet/ greet in calm fashion, setting goals for CDC title in couple months....

Congrats, that worked out perfectly for you. After a few weeks though, I'd start weaning him off the treats. Keep it random though so he still looks to you to see if this is a treat car or not.
