April's only 2 weeks away and with April comes a change to the Rally rules and signs.
One of the ones that stands out in my mind, and I sure don't remember all of them, is that the handler cannot look like they are 'baiting' the dog. I remember this one mostly because I have a habit in Rally of holding my hand in a fist with my index finger extended. I've been trying to work on just keeping a flat, somewhat more relaxed, hand but I forget at times.
Some of the new signs are also a bit harder at the Advanced and Excellent levels. Some of the people I've taken Rally classes with suspect the Figure 8, which is new to Novice, will become a fairly common obstacle since the switch between the Off-Set Figure 8 and the novice Figure 8 is the removal of the two food/toy distractions so it's a fast and easy change in the course.
On the 24th I'm attending a seminar at one of our local Obedience clubs where they are going to go over the new rules and signs in detail. The seminar is being taught by Mr. Theodore A Walshesky who is a Rally and Obedience judge - and is considered by many in the area to be the toughest Rally judge because he comes from an Obedience background and looks for Obedience level skill in Rally, such as exceptional heels over long distance. (Edan actually showed incredibly well under him with a 97 in Novice.)
What is everyone else doing to help prepare for the new Rally rules and signs?
