New rally venue

Soon there will be a sport for everyone! Great! My money's already stretched thin with AKC, UKC and ASCA.... AKC is king around here, plenty of clubs and trials. The new UKC club is adding two weekend of three trials a year, and the hard working ASCA folks hold 4-5 weekend a year!

Both local obedience clubs in our area still heavily in the past, I was told by director of training at one club that we can not use clickers because if one uses, other dogs might not know it is not for them:eek2:
they keep promising to change but it is looooong road:no:
so as results our AKC trials are heavy with those people.... maybe one day I will take up this challenge but not today
this is why my entries and $ support will go to venues that promote fun and joy and relationship with their dog... here is is Rally Free class, whats there not to like? Plus scoring is nicer because one is earning points not getting them deducted IMHO

One of the Fun rally venues got no respect here because you could carry food and treat on the course. Well, if I could do that, then success would come easy and my dog and I would not be working as a team...

I think it is very shortsighted point of view on using rewards in the ring. Several venues such as APDT rally, CDSP obedience, and new upcoming ones as CWAGS do allow reward with food and/or petting during trial. They do not allow luring, i.e. you can not pull out a treat and lead your dog by the nose, treats are allowed only after completion of stationary exercise in rally, i.e. if you did call front and finish right- after your dog came and sit at your leg you have an option of rewarding or in obedience after judge says exercise finished.
It is option not a requirement. Plus you can not wear an apron or bait bag, treats have to be in the pocket.
We just completed level 1 APDT rally and for example, there was about 2-3 spots in each course one could have used treats and only as a reward. In general the atmosphere was nicer and more relaxed than AKC trials at least it is my experience here locally. Just like in agility lots of people like CPE for "nicer" people and atmosphere. We still have full AKC agility trials that are hard to get but CPE are just about every weekend and people love them.

I do not get that, What makes people "nicer"?

I do not know anyone who I could say is "not nice" in the obedience and agility circles. I have met people that are very nice, and very generous with their time, advice, training tips, etc. In fact, the OTCh/MACH/CH folks are the nicest and most generous I've met!

I agree - I've competed in one Rally venue which allows rewards at specific points (CARO), and one that doesn't allow rewards (CKC). Without a doubt, CARO trials are the more difficult of the two, despite the fact they allow treats. Another consideration - rewards are used only in novice and advanced, and most people don't bother using them in advanced. Sometimes it helps introduce people to Rally - they like knowing they have the treats on them just in case. It's good to have a variety of venues for different people/needs.
