I'm a new Sheltie owner, and I'm here to learn more about this breed and educate myself on how to take care of my new Sheltie.
No pics up right now but she is very sweet, her name is Tashunke (or tash, or shunke, or whatever variation works :-P)

Anyway, she can from a house that didn't take care of her very well (along with the other 4 they had...) so she's very reserved and VERY submissive. Also not house broken so can anyone direct me to a section that I could start a thread to address that?
 
Welcome to the group! You have come to one of the best places for information and to learn more about shelties! I'm so glad to see that you are giving that little girl a much needed good, loving home.

As for housebreaking, I think if you look under behavior, you might find the advice that you need. If you can't find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to ask, there are plenty of people that can help.

It may take a while for her to get settled in so give her some time. Good luck with your new girl and I can't wait to see pics when you have them available! :winkgrin:
 
Thank you :-) Right now she's been watching me type for the past hour. Terribly interesting for a Sheltie I guess :-P

I'll go start that housebreaking/submissive thread now.
 
Welcome to the Forum. Tash will need time to settle into her new home and she is very lucky that she will have people now who will love and care for her the way she deserves. You'll find that Shelties are very intelligent and your little girl will be quick to pick up on what is expected of her as long as she is taught in a calm, loving way.
 
Welcome! I like her name. Did you name her or did she come named already? Does it mean anything? Can't wait to see pictures of this lucky girl!!

Thank you so much for giving this lucky girl a new forever home. She will need lots of patience, love, and direction. As far as potty/ housebreaking goes, creat a schedule and stick to it. She should pick up fairly quick . But we don't know what kind of baggage she comes with. But Crate training along with a schedule should help alot. Tons of praise when she accomplishes what you are aiming for. They need and want structure. Good luck on the training process and looking forward to seeing pictures of the new Sheltie ! Oh yes and welcome to the world of being owned by a Sheltie !:lol:
 
Welcome! Good luck with Tash. There is a ton of GREAT info on this site, but watch out, you may love it so much, you may NEVER want to leave!
