Odd behaviour....

I discovered quite by accident that if I suck in and out my tongue quickly while looking at my dogs, they get some agitated and come to attention as if I am suddenly a threat. They really don't like it at all. First they look at me and then look away. Not quite submissive, but wary, is the best way to describe it.

Does anyone have an explanation for this bizarre reaction?

Honey doesn't react to the tongue, but she does hate when I'm making bubbles with bubble gum...might be a similar thing.

Yes, Bailey freaks out when I suck in air loudly. She will run from wherever she is to bark at me. After I noticed her reaction to that sound, I started using it as an emergency / urgent recall.

Maybe they're wondering why Mom has suddenly lost her mind.

I tested this further. The kissy sound has similar reactions in both dogs.

Indy actually gets excited and tries to lick back and lunges towards me....not quite aggressive but close. I think its almost play behaviour, but not sure.

Callan runs away! And won't look me in the eye. He is totally spooked by it. Its bizarre!

Despite Chris's assessment that the dogs think I've lost my mind....I really think there is some instinctive reaction going on here. Maybe I'm the next Diane Goodall of Shelties to document unexplained dog behaviour! LOL!

Or maybe I'll just google it and find it out there. :biggrin2:
