One day trial vs multiday trial

I think it depends a lot on the dog, distance of shows and your life. My parent's yorkie only gets shown one day during shows because he can only preform at his best one day (making time is an issue). However, I used to show Honey all weekend long but the shows are only 30 mins-1 hour away from me. When i went to college in Edinboro, my parents would come up for the day for a dog show and bring her for me to show. Now that Honey lives with my in North Carolina, there are VERY few shows we can attend to. None in North Carolina are even close to us. So when there is a show we can make, we're doing the whole weekend. I don't do anything different with dogs though based on the days they preform.

As others have said, I prefer multiple day trials simply because if I'm going to drive somewhere, I might as well get more bang for my buck. My dogs are well-conditioned, so I'm not worried about the multiple days.

When it gets to 3 days, I'll sometimes be a bit more judicious about what I enter them in, as those trials usually have DAM Team, and thus more runs per day. By the end of the 3rd day I can see a difference in the dogs, so I try to not have them have 3 long days.

I'm like Ortegah, I like to play the odds :) There is a trial around here that is Masters on Friday/Saturday and Starters/Advanced on Sunday. We've been a couple times just for Saturday (can't get off work on Fridays), but it's depressing because we have a lot less opportunities for a Q. I also find that it helps my mental game to have that break in between, and I can come back refreshed for another day if the first day doesn't go so well. We've basically stopped going to that specific one day trial for that reason.

Our last CPE trial I had 5 runs with each dog and 2 runs with friend´s dogs, 12 runs total. Was well organized but loong day nevertheless. I am considering 2 days trial at my local facility though...
For mental prep I like Lanny Basham books /DVD a lot. My mental freaking happens outside of the course though, I worry about arriving on time, getting good parking spot, getting good crating spot, not missing to get with dog on time to right level:smile2:
Running itself is cool, no worries there:yes:
