"Pavlov's Benson Or Am I Spending Too Much on Amazon?"

I have commented several times about Benny's superlative sniffer. Indeed, I have to cheat so Fillion can get his share of goodies in our Go Find Em game every day!
So it was a bit surprising to find that Benson's hearing doesn't seem to be quite as acute. If I can hear the car or van crunching on the loose gravel when pulling into the driveway, I would think Benny would too. But that's not always the case. However, when he does hear the delivery guy, he goes flying to the front door, barking like mad in true sheltie fashion. But many times the package gets delivered without him being aware of it.

I was amused the other day to realize that Benny had learned what one sound means! He was dead asleep right by my feet and Alexa went off with the notification sound. (For those without an Alexa, its a simple dum-bum sound and a yellow light to indicate a notification of some sort for you) He came flying up from that dead sleep and went racing to the door barking his head off. He knew there was a package out there!

Maybe I should cut back on my online ordering, before he learns to order cookies online....

So I have a webcam treat dispenser (Pico's first christmas present!).
It lets off a little circus like tune for about 5 seconds. Then nothing for a few seconds. Then you can her the mechanism collect a treat and then eject it. Now, Pico will wake up to the tune, but NOT get up until he hears the mechanism click. The tune is MUCH louder, btw. This thing goes off 3x a day, so he knows exactly what is going to happen, but it just lazy I suppose. and he has no fear another dog will steal his treats LOL

That's hilarious! I have my Alexa set with reminders for various things like giving dog meds and refilling the water bowls. It makes the same dum dum sound as yours before the reminder which, for good measure, it repeats twice! Mine know that sound will bring me from wherever I am and are always hopeful it involves food! Our blink camera notices also ping whenever one of the local racoons sets it off or, heaven forbid, the delivery people. Also cause to raise the alert here!

Never ever worry that a Sheltie house will be too quiet......... :wacky:

That’s just too funny! But at least now you know why he runs to the door for an Amazon delivery and not just any car on your driveway :ROFLMAO:
I must say for all the many many things my dogs bark at I can’t think of any notification sound that causes them to bark…but then they bark at just about everything anyway so I doubt I’d notice it:lol::lol::lol:
