Picky eater after neuter

Riley has always loved his food. Now after neutering he is refusing to eat his food (Earthborn Holistic Grain Free - Great Plains Feast), he was fine with it before surgey. He is more than happy to eat Dakota's (Springer Spaniel cousin) Fromm food. I bought a small bag of Fromms gain free for Riley to eat, so if he doesn't like it I am not wasting a big bag of food.

Has anyone had their dog become picky with certain flavors of food after surgery?

I like the Earthborn line of food, however I am not sure if I should switch food permanently or just try a different flavor of the same brand? I wish that Earthborn had more than 4 flavors of food.

I never had that happen. I had a sheltie I lost to chronic pancreatitis who had eaten dry kibble all his life refuse to eat the prescription kibble, however. He had to be transitioned to Hills canned GI low fat to keep him happy.

Hanna was spayed this week and she was more than ready to eat that evening having missed breakfast. How is Riley doing otherwise?

He was happy to eat his Earthborn food that evening but other than that refuses his old food. He seemed to like the Fromms grain free I bought him today.

He is doing well, way more active then I would like him to be! He hates the cone, I have been making wear it at night and when I am not around as he wants to lick the surgery site.

I think it's a male thing - my poor little pommie wore his for 5 days/nights solid with very little off time. My last female showed only wore hers for a day or two before losing interest. It's darned near impossible to keep them quiet when they feel good isn't it. I'm just making sure she does not jump or fall off stuff, but otherwise I figure if the incision looks good and she's not in pain a little running around the house can't hurt. Stitches come out Saturday.

Really odd about the food, it could just be a co-incidence.

I would just stick with the Fromm's grain free. (if he likes it and it agrees with him)

Fromm's is an excellent dog food choice.

How old is Riley? Could be an adolescent thing.

Riley is 11 months.

So far on the Fromms he is back to being happy to eat. I tried a little of the old food and he will eat it but he isn't happy about it. I need my boy to be happy:)

Does anyone have any suggestions of other US made brands without a recall? I would love to feed Acana but its too expensive. I have been looking on dogfood advisor at the 4-5 star brands but its nice to get suggestions from people who have experience with the food.

I may go with Fromms anyway but its always nice to have other ideas. Its hard picking out good dog food!

As far as rotating food, is it better to have a rotation of a few different brands or will changing flavors within a specific brand each bag be enough to give Riley a variety?

I am a TOTW fan. A husky breeder I know suggested it. I feed bison but I like lamb better (a little TOO gassy on the shepherd). I got away from it after the recall a few years ago and went to Blue Buffalo and had nothing but trouble. Back to TOTW and we have less stomach issue, less waste, and a lovely coat. Bison is a little high on the protein scale so the husky breeder cuts with with bison + salmon mixed and her dogs thrive.

We have been on TOTW since 2010 and all (aussies, shep, sheltie) did well.

Sheltie is on Avoderm but that is short-term to lose a bit. As we get more active I will wean back to TOTW. Avoderm is awfully grainy for my taste.

I feed mine Merrick Grain Free. They have several different flavors, buffalo, chicken, texas beef, amongst others (they're all with sweet potato), but I am feeding the buffalo right now and Cookie loves it. I have also fed the chicken one, but he loves the buffalo. All the ingredients are sourced in the US and it's made in the US. Great brand. The breeder I got him from also fed Merrick and all her shelties seemed to love it. It's not as expensive as Acana, especially if you buy the big bags online (chewy.com, wag.com, etc).
