Play with me...on the leash

I was gonna say what take4roll already mentioned.

Romeo was like that as a pup. He'd be so excited and want to meet other dogs but coz he's restrained I think some frustration built over time. Now he barks and lunges. It may be worthwhile training her now to ignore dogs that go by while you're on walks (as if they were background noise).

There's a time and place for meeting other dogs anyway, and strange dogs you meet on walks while on leash may not be the best time - the leash could get tangled up with a dog that might not be particularly nice and Lexi might get traumatized by that experience. It has happened to Romeo too. I made so many mistakes when he was a pup!! :no: Poor boy, it's all mummy's fault!
 
Yeah, Iris does what Bailey does more or less... She completely loses her mind and its been really hard. I know some will say just keep walking past and ignore the distraction but then its tough when youve got a sheltie spinning in your feet and going bananas. Ive found that when I see a dog in the distance I ask her to sit and stay (Im not talking blocks away there but like 15 feet and we've been lessening the distance the better she gets) so more or less training her that the other dogs will come to her rather than her going to them. Its helped a lot, especially at the dog park because then rather than barrelling towards other dogs she gently approaches them (she taught herself what steady meant) so with the "sit and wait" I usually will use the command "focus" and give her treats hwen she looks at me ...

So I usually dont let her play that much when shes on her leash, I wait for the dogparks for that because as others have said getting tangled up with other dogs is not fun and people would always get mad because Iris would bark her fool head off

this is all probably totally of no help and is really just a combined use of other peoples theories here haha:razz:
