Pogo and Obedience

Hi everyone-

Wish me and Pogo the best this weekend. We start basic obedience. :biggrin2: I'm putting a HUGE amount of stock in this in hopes that this helps bring Pogo out of his shell. Now, I'm not looking for happy-go-lucky-I-love-everyone (wouldn't that be nice, tho?) but I would like for him not to hide behind the couch, under the coffee table or in his crate when the same people he sees on a constant basis are over at my house. I got all his "school supplies" this weekend and am starting to get him acclimated to the sound of the clicker.

I can see this wonderful, loving, clever dog in him and it just breaks my heart to see him so fearful and anxious all the time. I'm hoping that by doing this (oh yes, we are going further than basic obedience...CGC...advanced obedience, anything and everything until he's old enough for agiltiy), I'm giving him a "job" and he'll blossom into this awesome Sheltie that I know he is.

Best of Luck Stacey and Pogo!!

You are on your way to being best friends. Congrats on being owned by a sheltie Stacey. Keep us posted on his accomplishments.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, everyone!!

All things considered, he did very well on his first day of obedience school. The teacher commented that she could see he was very anxious but because he is so bonded with me, he was looking past it and listening to my commands. :biggrin2:

Pogo did; however, get the dreaded "Is he a toy collie?" comment :dead::mad: . I responded dryly "No, he's a 5 month old Shetland Sheepdog." I guess deep down I can't really blame her, sometimes I even forget he's still a puppy-he just looks like a small dog with really huge ears.
