Wouldn't you know it! I had to attend a series of meetings on Thursday that meant I would be away from the house from 6:30am to 11:30pm. My husband agreed to drop Phebe off at day care and pick her up, since I had to leave before they open and wouldn't be back until long after they close.
As luck would have it, the daycare didn't open until 9am and Mike had to be to work before that, so he put Phebe in the crate for a few hours (not more than 3). When he came home to take her to daycare, she had pooped in the crate (NEVER happened before), and of course it was because she had diarrhea.
He didn't realize how bad things were until after he opened the crate and she was halfway down the stairs.
I told him that in the future, if the crate smells 'off' take it outside before opening it. He hosed Phebe and the crate off, took her to daycare and had her bathed. I came home at midnight to a clean dog. Did I mention that he's not a dog person, but he REALLY loves me. 
Phebe still has very loose stools, so I gave her some pumpkin with her kibble tonight. I hope it works.
