Possessive or Super Love?

Dogs reach social maturity around 1-3yrs. That is the time they develop their place in the pack. If you are going to see aggression develop it is usually between 1.5yr -3.5 yrs This is for people aggression and dog aggression.

Sheri had a good suggestion.

thats really good to know, Ill have to keep a very watchful eye on her... Shes always
sweet as a button with me but others not always the case... She growls at the superintendant
of our building... she hates him, but he scares her and even though Ive told him countless
times not to go at her face and head wide palmed, he still does. Hes huge 6'6 at least...
He has a lot of presence, in other words. haha, although Ive tried to get him to give
her treats she wont even take them from him...

He does hate dogs, could that be affecting her?

Very good to know. So even though Bailey is 7 months old and has shown absolutely no since of aggression or possession, there is still a possibility it could develop. Even when my parents dogs growl at her, she thinks they're playing and tries to play with them. Poor Bailey.

I completely jinxed myself! Bailey showed her first sign of aggression last night. I gave her one of those balls filled with treats. She has to move the ball with her snout to get the treats to fall out. My mom's chihuahua decided to shadow her and snatch the treats when they fell out. Bailey didn't like this and showed her teeth and barked. I did not like this at all. I took the ball away until she calmed down. I gave it back and told her to share and then they were fine. I do not like seeing my dog act like this.

You did exactly the right thing.

If this is something all dogs go through then it's just another stage of growth where our actions will shape the personality of the dog. We need to remember to watch them and correct behaviors we don't like and, perhaps more importantly praise and reward the behaviors we do like. (Somehow we forget to praise correct behavior when we aren't in "formal" training mode.)

great response !! Iris is surprisingly good about her food, sometimes I give her a tiny dish of peanut butter (super tiny, like the size of 2 soup spoons maybe) and maverpuss will go up to smell it while shes licking away and she doesnt react.. I got justin to practice taking it away and regiving it to her.

She was not too impressed about being removed from the couch for justin to sit down but she'll learn, is it ok if after a few minutes i let her hop on with us though ?Those sad eyes just kiilllll me
