Puppy exposure?

I left my long-time vet for some of that reason -- the bill would come with TONS of add ons like special food, shampoo, fecal, full blood panel, treats, toys, dental chews, flea/tick, etc. Then you would have to initial each to "deny the charge". Then they would come back with the real bill for what you had done. Fabulous vet but the economy decimated her clientele and she had to peddle stuff to make the bills. Had to find a new vet whose worst vice is trying to get yearly shots for everything (once I whispered I do the three year protocol) they kind of don't ask.

Interesting this topic should come up. I took Dickens to the vet today for a checkup; it's the first time he's been to the vet since his 4-month visit. Now, Dickens is a little people shy, but not pathologically so. He let the vet tech put him up on the scale with no trouble at all. But the vet herself was a different story. She came dancing into the exam room, made some small talk, and then without warning tried to pick him up and put him on the table. Dickens is a 43-pound dog, and the vet was a rather fraile-looking woman. In the process of trying to lift him, she lost him, and it was only with my help and the help of the assistant that we kept him from falling. By that time, the poor thing was frozen with terror, not knowing what was happening, and not having a chance to get acclimated to a person whom he had never seen before. I was quite upset, and it didn't help that from the time I got there someone was trying to hawk me some vaccination or procedure that I didn't want and my dog didn't need. I'll not be patronizing that establishment again, and poor Dickens will probably be vet-shy from here on out.

I always pick my dog up to put him/her on the exam table. occasionally, the vet will put Cran up but mostly I do it. I also usually hold my dog while vet does whatever....

I would have gladly done this as well, but unfortunately didn't get the chance. Dickens is used to having me pick him up, usually to get weighed, even though he doesn't care for it. Unlike that infernal apology for a vet, I'm strong enough to do it without him slipping and sliding all over the place!

I allow people to handle my dogs as much as possible

With Bacca, my breeder spent time sitting in her front lawn watching traffic

Callan's breeder had the tv going in the background.

Callan seems to be immune to loud noises so far. V the only thing that freaked him out was guys on my neighbours roof with nail guns. Lawn mower, weed whacked, leaf blower, hair dryer ...all good. Even doorbells and thunder. Crossing paws that he does not pick up Indy's bad habits

My breeder lives in the country, but right next to a very busy highway. On nice days she has the pups in a shaded x-pen in the yard where they are exposed to all sorts of traffic noises.

Little Baker has plenty of my co-workers that can't wait to meet him. Like others, we will also be visiting pet friendly stores.

Can't wait to bring that little fuzzbutt home!
