Puppy Hunger

So Oberon's now 11 months, and pretty much a full-grown dog now. I can't help but miss the puppy he was -- not that I'm not enjoying the dog he's become, but still. . .

It's like when my kids were growing up and leaving babyhood for childhood. I went through the same thing. I loved them and enjoyed where they were, but still missed the baby stuff.

I live in a complex where we're limited to two pets, so Oberon and Casanova-the-Cat are it. But lately I've been wondering if perhaps we couldn't somehow sneak another Sheltie puppy in. I can certainly understand why they're called "potato chip dogs". Lee says if we had more room, he'd want 3 or 4; I'd be happy (at least for now) with just one more!

Do cats count as pets? You hardly even know they're there! What's one more tiny little puppy....go for it! (I'm a fine one to talk...I have five....nearly a whole bag of potato chips! :eek2: )

never thought I would say this

I have always had one at a time...Having two puppies was goofy. Kaleigh regressed a bit getting Savannah, and her good nature didn't exactly rub off or teach Savannah much if anything:eek2:. But since Savannah is coming up on a year. I can say it has been a long journey but now the reward is here. Two are a handful, but it is the best of both worlds...mine entertain each other when I am not able to, so I get a break. I like being the audience when they are playing...It is more work, expense, time and energy, but now that they aren't in puppyhood, it is way more fun. Puppies are cute, but lots and lots of work-I forgot how much work! At the end of the day when they are all done in...I love that they are cuddle muffins. I feel like the creme center of an oreo. My covenants allow only two dogs...but I would have more if I could...I am thinking 3 would be a good number:yes:

I'll be the voice of reason: I don't think it's a good idea. What if someone makes a complaint, would you be willing to move, otherwise there is a chance the poor dog will have to be rehomed and that would be kind of cruel.

And if you think no-one will complain - think of the barking. Shelties bark in multiples. I always had a Sheltie and a cat and used to think, don't know what people are saying about Shelties barking too much. Then I got a second Sheltie, and well, I ate my words.

I can attest to the barking...my previous ones, having one at a time didn't bark, and Kaleigh wasn't a barker..u-n-t-i-l I got Savannah who is vocal about everything and to everyone, Kaleigh joined in to reply and add her take. So it was/is challenging to curb their vocalness. When we go see Buddy and Joy, it is the a collie/sheltie chorus... They chat to each other...
