Puppy wont Potty by his self

Im finally starting to have good progress with him
he'll go outside by himself finally and pee and poo.

i started out a couple of times throwing a treat outside and pointing out to him to go get it, once he ran to the treat he realized he was out there in the yard and decided "oh i need to pee."

did that a couple of times, and once he started going outside by himself w/o the treat i would treat him for going out there on his own.

he'll still look at me like he wants me to follow him but i tell him to go potty and he'll go potty

Nip it in the bud ASAP

I had the same problem. My sheltie follows me everywhere I go, so to ask her to go out "alone" was a problem. I had to go out with her, chanting "hurry up" for 4 years...in rain, sleet, and snow. It got ridiculous, cause there were times when she would fool around with a leaf, or lick the snow, while I stood there staring and chanting. She really had me trained and loved the attention.

She is now 4 and finally stopped. Try what the others have suggested and stick with it so you dont end up like us.

Some day you'll miss that. I remember taking Layla out in February freezing pre-dawn, chanting "Hurry up," and when she finished, rewarding her with a little leash walk down the driveway. Then she'd get cold, and I'd fold her into my parka and walk back up the hill, calming her shivers with my body heat. How I wish I could do that once more time! :wink2:
