And of course, to be consistent, you are including all elective procedures in your ban, correct? Cropping, docking, spaying (for less than a pyo), neutering, etc.?

This is because some dumbass legislator bought the story that "bad guys" debark their dogs so the "good guys" don't hear them coming. No known cases of that have been presented, but don't let the lack of evidence get in the way of a good story.

Perhaps you are correct. Many laws reach the light of day in that manner. My thrust here is to verify the claim that debarking is illegal in Ohio and as yet, I can only find evidence of Ohio debarking regulations that relate to what are deemed "dangerous" dogs and not dogs in general.

I will say this about the Ohio debarking regulations that I read. However they came to be and whatever political motivations were involved in their generation, I have no real issue with prohibiting "dangerous" dogs from being debarked. My reservation would be in how they determined a dog was dangerous. I have little faith that legislators would accomplish the task of defining "dangerous" any more efficiently than they accomplish most other tasks.

Ah, I see. I find "dangerous" gets redefined frequently, depending in what attacks have been the most publicized and what legislators think they need to fix, also can vary by jurisdiction. Makes things difficult.

Agreed! Its just that in the event that "dangerous" is defined correctly (the dog has attacked unprovoked repeatedly, trained and used as a fighting dog, those types of things) from that point, I have no problem with restricting debarking. It would seem that in the case of Ohio, the "defining" stage has been crossed now, for good or bad.

Question about vets that do debark surgery

None as it was banned from being done awhile agnly 2 in the state of Conn does it so all the mass people come here to have it done.

Can someone tell me the name of the vets that preform this operation?

Shelties are very vocal dogs. If your having issues with barking due to neighbors and such, then don't own the breed. Do your research. Debarking is the cruelest thing I have heard of. Dogs bark to communicate, would you like to wake up one day and not be able to speak? Training is the proper way to correct this. Our 5 month old boy is responding very well to "no bark" command.
