Question on Seresto....

In past years, I have read stuff on Seresto collars (Imidacloprid) but wondering if anyone has true, recent info on ties to gallbladders.

At the vet yesterday, they tried to push me to a collar and when I balked and mentioned the gallbladder tie with shelties, my vet asked me to forward anything I have on it. She is very open to reading stuff and is not the "I am a VET! hence God" types. Wondering what info SN folks have that I can give her.

Thanks!

This study was done by the vet who has been at the forefront in research on GBM in Shelties for the ASSA and other medical associations. She's going to be coming here to do a seminar for my Sheltie club this fall. Her study does mention imidacloprid.
Analysis of a data subset containing only Shetland sheepdogs (23 GBM and 46 control) indicated that Shetland sheepdogs with GBM formation were 9.3 times as likely to have had reported use of imidacloprid as were control Shetland sheepdogs (95% CI, 1.103–78.239).

Here's the whole report:

I've heard negative things about those collars, period. You'll notice they don't run the television ads that they used to. Anything that can last 8 months as they claim can't be good IMHO.
And I did hear of the link with Sheltie GB. I believe there was also a link with Advantage Plus.

Thanks for posting the report, Ann!

I think Imidacloprid has been long suspected as an issue. It was in Advantage and some other touted product. Thanks for the link, Ann, I had run across that in my google search... wasn't sure if there was anything else anyone had. Looking forward to a report back on the talk when you go o it. Is that the same vet who is running the current gallbladder testing?
