rawhide

I've never had a dog chip teeth on the hoofies. They're basically like really hard fingernails, and they can (over time and chewing) scrape off the hoof.
 
Rawhide, bully sticks and pigs ears are all quite fatty... if you're dog has a sensitivity to fat... then yeah, they'll make him/her sick.

My dad's dogs get antlers, but they're a very low value treat... the antler chunks sit around forever and no one seems to ever be chewing them. (I don't think they have much more flavour than wood)

I saw some REALLY cool toys on a youtube posting of Victoria Stilwell's show "It's Me Or the Dog", but I've never seen anything like that in any of the stores here.

Someone once told me that you should soak a deer antler in hot low sodium chicken broth for a day or so and it makes it more flavorful and loosens up the marrow. Just a thought! (I've been too lazy to try)
 
I only give my two a Pig ear when I put it in their Holee Rollers(sp?) and it takes them a good day or two to chew it down. I usually buy a pig ear that is just the right size to stretch into the Holee Roller to fit inside so edges stick out but they never get the whole thing in their mouth to bite off a chunk. They lay with it, bounce it, and fling it trying to get the pig ear out! A good toy for when us humans are watching a movie and still want the furkids in the room & quiet.
 
My boy wasn't a fan of rawhide. As part of his (vet prescribed) dental program, he had medium sized Greenies Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They didn't take long to eat, but he totally loved them.
 
he's been getting rawhide for a little bit every few days, so when i really need him to stay out of trouble i can give him a rawhide for a couple hours and he won't vomit later. he has been doing better.

i like the idea of stuffing a toy that they can't quite get all the food out of (like the pig ear in the roller) - i may try that, as long as he can get *something* out, so he won't lose interest...

i've heard that the ingredients in greenies aren't the best for dogs. i used to give them to my dogs when i was a kid, and no problems (except for green fur). but i haven't fed them to my dogs recently..
