Results From Our CPE Trail

Very nice runs! Congratulations to the two Q's.

If you do CPE again, I hope you will try some of the games. Most of them are not as complicated as they sound on paper. (I say most because Snooker is just a complex game until you "get it". I've figured out a few tricks to it but still hate the game.) Feel free to ask me about the games if you need clarification on the rules.

Congrats to you and Bailey. You guys ran nicely!!! What a great job! And um, we always think we look funny running, no big deal. And I'm sure as you both gain more confidence, the speed will come.

I say, go for the AKC trial. You'll know if you're ready for that level or not. Well, after you run. And definitely try out the CPE games. Most of them are very easy. I think Snooker is the hardest to understand and follow all the rules. And trust me, L1/2 games are pretty simple. I think the first time I ran Colors, I was like, "is that it?" because it sounded hard, but then I walked it in L1 and it was 8 obstacles. EIGHT!

And I give you credit for working the trial. I told myself the first trial I did I'm not working. No way. I wasn't going to stress myself out. And I didn't. I don't think I started working until I was more comfy with the trial scene. So you did great!

Can't wait to see how Bailey (and you of course) progress over the next year. It's amazing how much you grow as a team within a year.

Since Bailey did so well, I am considering entering her in my club's AKC trial next month. It'll be in the same location as this CPE train. The only difference is two rings, a lot more people/dogs and a harder course.

If you think she's ready for AKC, then go for it.

Let me just give you something to think about. The advice that was given to me regarding AKC trials was to wait until I finished CPE level 2 so both Edan and I would have more experience in a trial environment before entering AKC which is more difficult and more stressful. (The environment as a whole tends to be more stressful in AKC, not just the courses.)

The other thing to consider is CPE doesn't use the teeter and weaves at level 1; AKC does. If Baliey is solid on the teeter and weaves, this may not be a problem.

I did wait until I was almost finished CPE Level 2 (I needed a Jackpot run to finish) before entering AKC. Honestly, I was glad I did because the Novice courses were super easy and we breezed through Novice - both Standard and JWW. I was also able to look at Open courses and say "this is what I'm use to running".

As I said at the beginning, if you believe Bailey is ready for AKC, then go for it! Each of us has a different dog and a different comfort level with where we are - especially when starting out. Only you truly know what you and Bailey are ready for.

I think that we as trainers tend to psych ourselves out about trying a new venue or a new event.

In my opinion, Bailey looked awesome. An AKC novice course will be no problem for her.

Although more competitive people compete in venues like AKC and USDAA, the beginner level courses are for just that...beginners. There will be plenty of people who have never trialed before, and who are way worse than you and Bailey (trust me!)

The courses that you posted look just like starters USDAA courses. The only thing to weigh, in my opinion, is the teeter and weaves like Sheri mentioned.

AKC or any other venue is only stressfull if you make it stressfull. As far as the Novice courses they aren't super easy as you state. Some maybe but most of the judges are making these Novice and Open courses like the Excellent classes. If you have a dog that runs slow or one that barely makes times sure you will Q but run a fast dog and it is different story.Though I do not run CPE it is a nice venue to start a green dog to get them use to trial settings but for me if I am training on all the equipment then I want to show on all the equipment and then I can see what I have to work on in classs. This is JMO.

Bailey weaves and does the teeter. She only starting doing the teeter in the last 2 months or so, so I wouldn't be surprised if she did refuse the teeter.

I will talk to my trainer tomorrow and see what she thinks. If she thinks me and Bailey are ready then I will sign her up for a 1 day AKC trail. I don't want to overwhelm her with two days.

I am not sure how far Dream Park is from you, but I really like trialing there. We have only done Jumpers with weaves, though, so I do not have any experience on how the contact obstacles are on that surface.

A tip about AKC trials around here, you have to mail your entry on the opening day. The AKC agility trials around here tend to fill up within the first day or two.

she looks great and is focused on you, it's wonderful!
Are u kidding me about yourself running, you have seen me in the videos, so PHSAW to you, lol
