Revolution and Emma

Emmasmom

Forums Sage
I picked up Revolution for Emma yesterday. I asked her breeder for a recommendadation and this is what she had suggested.

However, a question for the vets on the forum. Emma weighs 22.5 pounds. I will be transitioning her to adult in the next couple of months and suspect that she may lose weight due to this and the walking we will be doing.

Given that she has had problems with medications in the past (she isn MDR1 clear), I am concerned about the dosage I was given. I was given Revolution red for dogs 22.1 to 44 pounds. I feel that this may be too much for a Sheltie such as Emma. What are your thoughts?

I would either need to exchange this or just used have the dose.

(Sorry - thought I had posted this in the medications threads).

I'm not a vet but for what it's worth, I've always been told to use the smaller size dose for the dog's weight. I would definitely only use the dose for up to 22 lbs. In fact, our dogs weigh around 22 lbs each but the flea/tick replellant I use is for dogs 15 lbs and under, and I wouldn't use anything stronger. This has always been my vet's recommendation.

Thanx for your input Ann. I appreciate it. The receptionist just went by weight and didn't check with the vet. I feel real uneasy using something for this weight with Emma.

I called the vet and ordered the one for the lower dose. The receptionist wasn't too happy but something is telling me to go with the lower dosage. I have learned over the years to go with my gut feeling. She barely made the weight for the dose I was given (she is 22.5 pounds and it starts at 22.1 pounds and goes to 44 pounds). I think this would be too strong for her.

Justice is 22.8 lbs. I use Frontline but the cut off is 22 lb, I always use the 0-22lbs dose. It works fine. He had a skin reaction to Adavantix so I don't like to use too much. I have never used revolution in pratice but I would go with the lower dose.

To bad what the receptionist thinks..it's your dog,and you are the one paying her wage.

I would have done the same thing, and gone to a lower dose.We use Revolution here, and really like the product.

Thanx for the imput. The receptionist did acknowledge that it was MY choice. She had not even checked with the vet and I did mention two or three times Emma's reaction to medications.

Emma kept laying across me yesterday, just like she does when she wants out. I tried putting her out - nope not what she wanted. I was rubbing her head and felt a lump and checked. Yep - a dog tick on her head. My dad held her head and Emma allowed me to pull it out (the vet's gave me a special tool, it looks like a doll's crowbar) and didn't react at all, didn't flinch, jump or anything. She knew something was biting her and did her best to let me know. I am amazed at the way this dog reacts to things. Neither of my other Shelties would have done this. And, she is only 8 monthns.

"Get it off, Mommy." :(
