Rocket's Adventure

We took Rocket to the chain pet store that loves dogs last night. He's been there before and been whisked away for a free nail trim. But last night was his first solo trip. He was very frightened. And he refused treats. He was either glued to me or to DH. There is an employee there who lost her sheltie several months ago, and she wants another so badly it hurts. We've talked numerous times. But she is very specific about wanting a sable girl, so she didn't want Rocket. However she wants to cuddle him. So she did yesterday. Then told us we need to work on his shyness. (Yeah- that's why we're here). But he took the nail trim. He took the cuddles. He enjoyed looking at the birds. And he wagged his tail and kissed my face when I briefly held him. He doesn't know this- but there is another trip scheduled for Saturday. But it might not be a solo trip.

Sounds like a great outing! Good for you and Rocket... keep going! My older sheltie (6) has finally become "aloof" with strangers. He is polite and stands very stoic to let strangers pet him, so unlike his young self who acted like a golden retriever in a puppy suit...

I remember Fill taking cues from Koko when we were in Ace Hardware when he was a pup. Even my "golden retriever in a puppy suit" (that is so funny!) was unnerved by three squealing kids wanting to pet the puppy. Kok's calm resignation to being patted helped Fill.

We had another adventure on Saturday. Clara AND Tara got to go. We went to the RV Dealership and picked out our trailer. And the three dogs got to get walked around. Rocket fought getting out of the truck with gusto. But he did get out. And then he fought going back into the truck equally as valiantly. He lost that fight too. Then we went to a pet store on the way home from the dealership. He fought that too. And absolutely refused to take any treats from anyone.

And on Sunday, he went on a long walk- one on one with DH. He sat, and did down. And walked really well. He allowed DH to pet him. And he took a treat from a town police officer and allowed the officer to pet him. Then he puffed up and wiggled all proud of himself when he got back to mommy.

Then he crashed!

Chip has never been a problem in Lowe's, Pet store, or even the machinery rental company when he was little, I put him up on the counter. One of the workers 10 year old son was there sitting on the floor. Chip went over to him and crawled up into his lap. Laddie is another story. He is terrified of the pet store and the folks in it. We simply haven't taken him back since he was so unsettled. He has made up with everyone in our family with exception to one cousin. They have a dog but Laddie wants nothing to do with him.
Rocket is marked a lot like Chip. He is my "Baby Boy" with four legs and fur.
