running full speed

It's official...

At Duncan's puppy class on Monday night, one of attendees asked about their Jack Russell running madly through the yard & the instructor proceded to talk about "zoomies."

I was told its called a 'bum-tuck' because the dogs tuck their bums down as they fly across the lawn. My 15 month lab still does this very occasionally, usually when he just gets so excited and can't resist going for it.

Its OK until he comes charging at you and fails to swerve! Big Ouch!

But don't worry, they just need to burn off puppy steam sometimes.

My lab will be three on June 26 and still charges around sometimes! It's that lab energy and power - got to love it!

Bailey is a good match for an energetic lab. When the two of them have their daily blow off steam session, it's hilarious to watch. Bailey is usually the one to initiate that kind of play these days.

When Bailey chases the lab (Mitsy) and they're heading for our deck, the lab with easily clear all three steps and bound up in one giant leap!

Anyway to the OP, charging around, aka the zoomies, is quite normal. Shelties have a lot of energy and love to play. You never have to ask Bailey twice. :)

Oh definitively normal! I call it the "crazies". The boys were doing it at the cottage this weekend....I was sure one of them was going to get hurt, leaping on and off the deck (skipping the stairs)

I call it "rocket dog," and Meggie and Lucy do it all the time! Meggie used to do it all by herself too, but it seems twice as fun now that Lucy's there too.

They do it in the house too!

We call them" rippers" at our house. Fergus is 2yrs old and it's his favorite thing to do both inside and out especially if I chase him. All of my shelties did it till they were quite old.

Bentley used to do this by himself---just bound in and out of rooms in the house! Now he has our cat doing it, and they take turns chasing each other around :)

Layla is the zoomie champion at our house. She tears all over, and Bits and Annie try to cut her off and bowl her over. We love zoomie time!!
