Sable Merle?

Gosh, she is pretty! My girl is similar, but she has the touches of tan on a mostly grey and white body. My mahogany sable Collie boy has a touch of merle also, which only shows in the grey tinge in the fur on his flanks. As I understand, that is why merles should only be bred to tricolors. That sneaky merle gene can hide behind the sable, and you may wind up with double merle puppies.

Love the term "smerle".

Calliesmom and EJHUNTL, love the pictures. Both beautiful shelties. I hope Cleo looks as amazing when her coat fully comes in.

And thanks everyone for the reassurance! This is just another reason not to buy from a pet shop. Though I feel I totally lucked out with Cleo. Besides minor faults, she is such an amazing sheltie and I am lucky to have her as apart of my family. :hugs

Trust us - Cleo is going to be gorgeous. The change in the first 2 years is just amazing. Hanna came from a breeder and is registered but she is not show quality - we love her all the same.
