Sally broke her leg...

Thank you, all.

She got through it just fine yesterday, and she might be able to come home (well, her temporary home) today! She's alert, and her temp is fine....she just needs to eat, which I don't think she will, since my brother taught her never to take food from strangers.

Good luck! I hope she's not in too much pain when she gets home. You are a good aunt to Sally!

She's doing really good! Eating, drinking, and hopping around like a pro!

She's got pink stitches that have to come out on the 13th!

Best of luck to you and Sally. I'm sure she'll do fine, especially since she gets to adjust with you. So glad to hear she's handling it well so far!

I'm glad that she is doing well.

Check her shoulders and hips for muscle cramping, it takes a while to adjust to a new mode of walking and she will likely have muscle cramping which is painful but very treatable. Unless there is a suture line anywhere near the shoulder or hip, run your hands around these, pressing into the muscles to determine the tone. Compare side to side, and if the muscle feels "hard" rub/knead the muscle area, progressing the depth of the massage until the muscle relaxes. Then, if you are familiar with a dog's normal range of movement, move the leg forward and back through the available range of motion to finish working out the muscle soreness.

I've had to do this quite a bit with Indy since his scapular fracture in June 2000. He doesn't like it but he cooperates nicely and he can go from not being able to put his paw on the ground to walking smoothly in under 10 minutes.

Thanks for the update Narmowen

Glad Sally is doing well! Granite's info is great of course, she a PT therefore knows what she's doing ! Thanks Granite, I'm certain it will come in handy for all of us who have aging Shelties and ones that have had injuries.:wink2:
Thanks for being there for Sally, Narmowen, You are a great Sister to do this for your Brother. Please keep us updated on her progress. Pink Stitches, I didn't know they came in colors.
