Sandstorm showed great behavior!!!

Hi all. Today I was walking Sandstorm around the corner from my house. A big scary company truck was parked there. The passenger was out of the truck, saw Sandstorm, thought he was a beautiful sheltie, told him so, and came over to him. He was a dog person, and he knelt down to have SS sniff him. Sandstorm went up to him and sniffed, didn't back away and bark. Meanwhile there are cars on the busy road and turning the corner-it was noisy. I was very proud of him, and he did not bark until the guy walked away! Lol.
So it was a good walk- what could it mean when a dog barks only when the person turns around and walks away? I've been meaning to post that question to all of you.

The barking while walking away....I am very familiar with that!! We think that Riley does it because he wants the person to come back to play with him/give him attention. Normally it's the same tone bark he uses when he is frustrated by a lack of attention from a person he likes (random lady at the dog park, our neighbors....)
 
My Irish setter, Shannon, did that and so does my Danny Boy. I don't think they want them to come back though. More like "nice to see ya but don't come back". One time Shannon grabbed an employee by the back of his pants. Didn't bite or nothing. Turns out this guy was a thief!!! She knew.
