Hello everyone, I am from Ohio and drove all the way to Wisconsin to get our first Sheltie. Her name is Sassy, and she is spoiled beyond words. She has an awesome personality. I need help in potty training her!!! She pee's outside, but as soon as she comes inside she poos. I can keep her out ten minutes or an hour. It just doest seem to matter to her. I am very frustrated, and this is how I came to this site. Hope you guys can help!!

Hi and welcome! I'm from Ohio too!

As to the pooping, honestly the best thing you can do is watch her 100% of the time. Don't give her an opportunity to make a mistake.

If you take her out and she pees, bring her in and put her in the crate if you can't watch her like a hawk. If you can watch her, leave her out but always have one eye on her. If she starts to sniff or circle, immediately take her out. If she squats, make a loud noise and pick her up quickly and get her outside. If she finishes outside, throw her a huge party!

If she poops inside, chalk it up as your mistake (she is just a baby) and vow to watch her more closely the next time.

Hello and welcome to the Sheltie Nation! Thanks for posting an introduction.

Maybe you can start a thread in the behavior or maybe the puppies section of the forum. You may get more help on the poopy problem over there :fl

Hello and welcome! Thanks for your compliment on Riley, I'm sure Sassy is just as beautiful!

As for the potty issue, I agree that watching her like a hawk is definitely helpful. Perhaps you could also put a piece of poop where she usually pees in the yard so she picks up the scent? I put a paper towel I used to clean up Riley's accidents in the yard and he would usually go around there. I don't know if this is the most effective method but that's what worked for me.
