Scared pup likes to release anal glands.. How to get rid of the smell?!

My pup has a habit of releasing her anal glands when she gets really scared or surprised.. What is the best thing for cleaning her up when this happens or will I only get rid of the smell by bathing her?

Well Mike you'll know how to clean out her glands should they ever get the need to get cleansed!:lol: I'm sorry just couldn't help it the baby wipes should help if it doesn't they sell a shampoo spray that is just to freshen the dog between baths just spray some on that butt area and wipe. That should do it.:wink2: Have a great day !
 
My girl Zoe does the same thing, I usually will just get a wet wash cloth and her shampoo and wash down her butt and dry her up. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry, I will sprinkle a bunch of baby powder on her behind. It helps too. It's pretty crappy when she does it and I seem to be the only one in my house that can smell it! :dead:
 
Smoke and Apollo both do this, I don't know how I was so lucky as to get 2 dogs with this trait :wink2:

I use the grooming wipes to clean up their behinds except that sometimes Smoke gets a lot of the liquid in his fur and I have to give him a butt bath with soap, water, and a washcloth.

The worst thing for us is that Smoke is scared of big trucks so sometimes when we have him in the car and an 18 wheeler goes by he perfumes the place :dead:

Oh how I so completely understand where you are coming from. If Zoe goes on a ride with us she is fine. If you leave her in the car alone while you run in the store very quickly, she will stink up the whole car! My husband forgot that she does this and took her with him one day, left her for 5 minutes and came back to his car full of stench! He won't take her anymore for that reason! :no:
 
Good, I thought Ruckus was the only dog to regularly bust his own anal glands. If Ruckus gets worked up he will sure do it! And its not just if he is scared, he will also do it if he is overly excitied!

I give him a full blow bath usually. He gets bathed a couple of times a month due to allergies anyway, so it doesnt hurt anything.

You can get some spray on waterless shampoo to use too.
 
I will definitely have to invest in some spray then.. The baby wipes just would not get rid of the smell from yesterday! She usually only does it when she is introduced to new people who want to bend down and pet/play with her.. Usually she will just poo or tinkle on the floor if she is that excited! Thats a entire different problem! Every time we go to Petco or Petsmart to get stuff with her she poo's on the floor within the first 2-3 minutes of being in the door. It makes no difference if she goes to the bathroom before she gets in the car to leave or goes right before she walks in the door to the store.. EVERY TIME she does it!
