Scratching Ear, Shaking Head

Mr. MacGreggor kept me awake most of the night shaking his head and scratching his ear. I checked his ears but I don't see anything. Do dogs get ear infections like we do? I will be calling the vets office as soon as it opens.

they do get ear infections which what you're saying sounds like one. Sometimes we can't see them either, so it's good you're going to the vets

Could be a foxtail in ear, could be mites, could be inner ear infection, but more than likely it is a "yeast infection" of the ear and just takes cleaning out and drops.

Keep us posted though. Melli is bad about yeast infections of the ear with 3 in 1-1/2 years. Two from water getting in there, one from a course of antibiotics.

We can't get into the vet until tomorrow at 2pm. Hope he isn't in too much pain. He his eating and playing with his sisters.

Do you see anything in there? Yeast infections, if you stick a Kleenex on your fingertip and rub down in there will come put with a bit of brown waxy substance. Not crumbly like brown sugar, but brown waxy.

Yeast injections can be helped with vinegar/water (douche -- actually). It might be worth a shot IF you find the brown waxy stuff and the ear is not yet too red and scratched up.

Yes, told ya so! I can spot that infection a mile away after having a cat with that for lifetime and Melli. Shay and Cubby both sniff her ears and that is another clue. Get the large bottle of the drops. It can recur. Also, treat both ears. It will just take a few days and all will be well.
