scratching when shedding?

Does anyone elses sheltie seem to be more itchy when they are shedding? Shelby is 3 1/2 now and has a very thick coat. Much thicker than our previous sheltie. The weather has been crazy here, hot one day, cold the next and Shelby is really starting to shed her coat. I have noticed that she has been scratching a bit and was wondering if it could be because she is shedding. Our other Sheltie really didn't have near as much fur and really didn't scratch much.

Shelby is on a good qualiy grain free food, she has no signs of fleas etc (nor is she scratching that much). She really has no other obvious reasons to be scratching.

Just curious if anyone else notices this?

Mally has been shedding a lot more than usual these past two months.

He, too, has been scratching more.

Possibly, they are blowing their coats for the winter months and itching happens?

Honey always seems to be more sensitive when shedding, both in reaction to touch and general itching. Yours could also be senstive to flea bites. Honey doesn't have fleas, she's on medicine, but she still gets a lot of bites at this time of the year and scratches like crazy from them.
