at what age do you think a sheltie should be switched to a senior diet? Pepper is 8 years old now and she is starting to slow down. she has arthritis, and doesn't like to run and play as much anymore  other than that the vet said she is in good health teeth are perfect weight is good. The vet said I should switch her to senior food now that she is 8. thoughts and feedback please! :biggrin2:

Most vets suggest a senior diet and or supplements at age 7. But that's because the food tends to be easier to digest and they have added more nutrients. What are you feeding now? Some of the best quality foods don't need to change because it already has everything your dog needs regardless of age. The best is to ask your vet what he/ she suggests. May be just a joint supplement. Which is already in higher quality foods.

she eats diamond lamb and rice right now. she also gets glucosamine pills. the vet said if her arthritis gets he wants to put her on anti-inflamitory, but he is trying to hold off until absolutely needed.
