Shedding

When should I expect Cleo to blow coat for the first time? She is 8 months now and has been spayed. I just want to be on the lookout since my husband has allergies. Cleo does not bother him at this point, but any time we go to the pet store or shelter or even the vet he starts sneezing like crazy. So I am just trying to be prepared. I want to try and cut down on the mess before it becomes too much on him.

I give Spirit a quick brush every day - and if I see an unusual amount of hair coming off, I do a much more thorough job. But she seems to have just lost an awful lot of undercoat about a month ago. She's looking pretty slender without all that poofy hair :-)

I can't imagine you'll get a proper blown coat until next year at the end of winter. Generally before winter they blow outer coat and after winter they blow undercoat. But seeing as Cleo only just grew an adult coat you may not notice her shedding a lot just yet.

Thank you, Caro - this I was not aware of - god to know

Minnie threw all her undercoat (lots) within 1-2 weeks (12½ month old.) Just after the spay and she again had to swim in the sea.

Now she is so thin - she has only her outer coat - she looks so neglected out :biggrin2:

Great! I will just continue my weekly brushing and upkeep and hopefully by that time she will not be as bad.

I think Cleo is shedding... I gave her a bath yesterday and brushed her and hair was coming off like crazy. Then all night I had been finding little pieces of fluff everywhere. So now I am vacuuming and I notice hair all over the lamp shades. Lol. Guess I need to get out the brush again and do a detailed brushing. :rolleyes2:

8 mths and blowing

Savannah is really thick coated on her bum-it gives the bertha butt impression, but it is all fluff that sticks up and out. This week it has been HOT, pups aren't too pleased. Last night I was furminating her backend and wow did I collect a serious fur mound. I had clipped off her underpants and undertail area at the start of summer. I had no idea the lil bum was still so furpacked/furladen. My girls really did grow a winter coat despite being just pups.

When it decides to blow, there is NO way you won't KNOW, ha..- tumbleweed season hits indoors, it rolls and blows everywhere creating fur blizzard fallout.

Yes, this describes my ordeal perfectly! It's everywhere! My vacuum had to be emptied at least twice because there was so much fur... :eek2:
