Shelly the sheltie will be forever chasing squirels

Our thoughts are with you and your family. Shelly was obviously well loved and a great companion. Rest now Shelly and chase the squirrels.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of a dear pet.

Rest well Shelly and "get those evil squirrels." My Cleveland will be right there with her chasing them.

Peace be with you.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your devoted companion.
I too held my dog on her last breath and I would do it over and over again.

Go and have fun with those squirrels Shelley...
YOUr are in God's kingdom now...where there is no more sickness and all fun.

February 14, Valentine's Day, my friend and near constant companion, died peacefully. I held her as she took her last breath. She was 15 years, 1 month old.

While she officially belonged to my mother, she was mine. She had been with me through thick and thin. Always at my feet, I would have named her Shadow, and when I bought my sheltie pup, I named him Shadow.

When my wife and I married, she and her 3 daucshunds and me and Shadow became a family, soon, two kids were added, then when mom was unable to care for Shelly, she joined us too.

Over the years, my wifes dogs became daucshund angels, in short order, we soon had two more daucshunds and my two shelties.

The shelties loved to travel by motorhome. I never had to worry about letting them out in the middle of the night.

Shelly hated squirels!!! When she was a puppy, a squirel made a fool of her. Seems that it was sitting in the middle of the back yard. Shelly spotted the tree rat and took off running. She got within 6 feet before that squirel saw the big ball of fur running full tilt right at it. The squirel junped straight up and took off for the back fence.... up the pool steps to the pool deck, over to the shed, missed the roof, could not grip the siding, thump to the ground, Shelly still in hot pursuit, back to the pool deck, now the shed roof, over the fence, up the huge sugar maple.... Shelly, all this time was stopped by the chain link fence. The squirel realized that the dog could not climb, so it ran back down the tree trunk, about 10 feet above Shelly, when it let out a squeaking laugh. Shelly never forgot or forgave that squirel.

Shelly loved to keep the kids under control, as long as they stayed in a group, she was happy.

Winter was her favorite season. In summer, you could not drag her into the pool, but to play catch with a snowball was her favorite sport. Must be the big fur coat!

I am surprised that she actually lived as long as she did. She always suffered from a heart murmer.

When she was a puppy, I could not take her anywhere inthe car without getting car sick... yep, sick as a - well, dog. She had a bad habit of watching the telephone poles... zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom, pretty soon, she was sick on the floor. She grew out of that.

Right now, it is 2 daucshunds and my Shadow. I will be looking for someone to replace Shelly... maybe two, litter mates, gotta keep these daucshunds under control.

Thank you for sharing those memories of Shelley! Keep them close to your heart, pull them out from time to time and relish the time you had together.

I laughed at your squirrel story. We have a red squirrel up at the cottage, that I swear taunts Indy just for the fun of it. Indy will be lying peacefully, minding his business. Then all of a sudden a chatter from the trees. Indy's head goes up! "Hmmm! What's that?" Then a streak across the lawn and Indy's off and running. The damned squirrel sits on a low branch and chatters at Indy, while he is desperately trying to figure out how to climb the tree.

Then the rotten squirrel scoots down the other side of the tree and runs to the next tree and up again! And taunts Indy some more! Nasty critter! At least make it fair!
