Not a rare sight at my house to see a dog chase the cat out of the room and the cat chasing them back in.
If Smokey doesn't seem to worried by it or isn't harrassed I let the cat and dog figure it out. Otherwise I'd teach the leave it command. Not a rare sight at my house to see a dog chase the cat out of the room and the cat chasing them back in.
Cute picture of Jasper and Bumper!
In the second one, Jasper looks like he is thinking, "Michele, I was just lying here and Bumper came up to me, I was not thinking about herding her so you needn't worry."
Ainsley will try to play with Mia, but Mia is 15 and isn't about to romp with a rambunctious sheltie. When Ainsley tries to play, Mia will just lay down and you can't chase or herd a cat that won't run! They aren't exactly friends, but they have developed a sort of mutual toleration society.
How old is your kitten? I would just make sure the kitten had somewhere to run and hide if the sheltie becomes too much. Put some boxes or cat tunnels around, or even a kitty crate.
