Sheltie dog park behavior?

My sheltie had the same issue too. He socialize with other dog when he was young, and he loves dog more than human. Recently when we go to dog park, he still sniff and seems interest to other dogs, they start chasing each other happily, but once the strange dog get close to him, he growl and snap to ask them back up. I really hate his behavior but people in the dog park said it is fine because he has his own way to tell others to back off.

Weird thing is he had 2 poodle playmate since he was young, they are really hyper and they can climb all over him without a problem... i somehow think that it is a sheltie thing...

I agree, I think that Shelties just do not like strange dogs to invade their space.

They also don't like full contact play, from what I have observed. They rather play chase.

Very true with mine. Thats what they do on the fence line run back and forth. When we have a visiting Yorkie, that is what they do, play chase.
