Sheltie with elevated liver enzymes and mild pancreatic problem

Our sheltie Rowan was taken in for listlessness, not eating, vomiting stomach bile (green or orange stain on rug). We decided not to wait for his regular vet and took him to a 24 hour pet clinic. Good thing.
They asked a lot of questions and gave us a price list from a high end to a low end. Thank you for Care Credit (up to 2000 limit) so we opted for the test and found he had high liver enzymes and mild pancreatic symptoms. He was put on an IV and pain meds. He has been there two days and of course the first day we were balling like babies over our little boy (nine years old). He spent the first night and we did research and spoke to the vet to get information on the problems.
It is hard to deal with a problem when they really can't pin the problem down. So two blood test later (each day) he still can't go home because he threw up this morning. Now, I have to call back at 2PM EST to see if he can be released of spend another day of observation. How frustrating.

I am sure you will find others here who have had this problem. All I can do is lend a little support. Will put your baby on my prayer list.

Go to dogaware.com Great website with lots of useful information. Elevated liver enzymes do not always mean liver disease, but pancreatitis, if not taken seriously, can be deadly very fast.

I had a similar thing with Tully (followed a few days later by Deska). Elevated pancreatic and some liver functions. Worked on the basis of it being a gastric bug (particularly as Deska and later one of the cats got gastro later), she's been on antibiotics for a week and it's clearing up.

Sometimes it is really hard to pinpoint the problem. It may have nothing to do with liver or pancreas. However they will probably recommend a big diet change when you take him home - probably Science Diet I/d or something similar, and to cut out the fat, treats and tidbits. You don't mention how Rowan is.

Bitsy Boodle has an elevated liver enzyme, too. We monitor it and treat with milk thistle. So far, the results have been very good. Sending good wishes that you're not seeing pancreatitis.
