I have sort of a dumb question but i noticed its somewhat of a trait on shelties. Why do they rest their snout on whatever is at the same height level of their head? This is my first time sheltie and he always rests his snout on the sofa and stairs at you. If noticed other shelties also do it. Ive had before german sheppards, poodles and shihtzus and i never noticed them doing it.

I am not sure why they do it, but I certainly notice them doing this behaviour. Sometimes I hold my hand out just so that I can cradle their snout in my hand. They love this and just totally relax their head into my hand. So cute. One of my favorite Sheltie behaviors....along with the eyes squeezed so tightly shut when they sleep.

LOL Precious does the EXACT same thing and I think it's the darn cutest thing ever. I hold my hand out, palm facing up and Precious takes it as an invitation to rest her snout there and closes her eyes to nap. But this isn't limited to my palm, she rests on my legs, my arms, my chair armrest, my table, my anything that is indeed her head/neck height at that moment to rest on. So cute! I have no idea either, maybe it is a sheltie trait... hahaha

Deska does this too - he has got such a long nose though, and of course he knows I think its adorable so he will do it when he wants something (that and the pushing my hand up with his snout).

Mine do all of the above - they know we can't resist the lovely Sheltie puppy dog eyes and will cave to whatever they want.

Indy doesn't do it (but maybe he is not a normal Sheltie....wouldn't be the first time I've wondered about that!

But Bacca does it all the time. We'll be driving home from the cottage in the car, and I'll glance back at him, and he has his head propped up against the back seat arm rail. It looks like the most uncomfortable position imagnaible, but he'll sit like that for 1.5 hours!
My forever pup, Timber, used to prop himself up on the baseboards - same idea. I don't know if this is Sheltie specific or not, but certainly some do and some don't.
