Slip Collar Breaking Hair

I use a small slip collar when walking my 5 month old little boy. He does fairly well when on lead unless there is a loud noise or vehicle passing by, then he pulls rather hard. The slip color has broken enough hair on the side of his neck that it is now a nice valley in his otherwise nice rough. Because he is so scared of loud noises and tries to run, I don't trust him with a flat collar. Any suggestions on what collar would be effective without so much damage to the hair?

Have you considered using a harness instead? I use a harness on my boys, as it allows for great control and I feel it is far more safe than a collar. They have never damaged their coat from it either.

If the collar causes him discomfort because he pulls hard whenever he is spooked by something, he may associate that feeling with loud noises, which could exacerbate his fear/dislike of those sounds.

I only put on the slip collar when I walk him. I hope everyone knows that leaving on a slip collar when they are unattended can result in the dog getting it hung up on something and chocking to death.

Anyway, I'm on the way to the store today to get a harness. I really don't like the looks of it but guess it's better than a damaged rough. I would try one of the show slip collars recommended but unfortunately they do not ship from the US to Singapore. I'll keep looking!

I have the same trouble. My dogs only wear collars when they are riding in the car or going for a walk--but they still have that little line where the collar usually "sits". I can't figure a way around it, it seems to happen with any type of collar we've tried.

Check around ask the breeders where they get theirs from, there has to be a place that sells them there. afterall they show in Singapore! :)
