Small kibble

I know where you're going. It's the same reason I am hesitant to try grain free again. Edan had issues with it whenever we got toward a 50/50 split during conversion no matter how slowly I did the transition. Admittedly it was before he had his gallbladder removed and removing it solved a LOT of his dietary issues but it put me off trying again.

We all have to do what we feel is best.

Totally. Y'know, for the price of a bag, I think I'll try a grained one. I just have to remember to look at the calories so I can figure out how much to feed them, don't want them getting fat (or not enough food).

Interesting perspectives.....I've always understood that larger kibble forces them to chew more rather than inhale, and the more they chew the better for their teeth (and shelties are known for teeth issues).

But here is my experience.....I feed Now! Senior to Indy who is a chow hound!

He gets, 2/3 of a cup in the morning which he can inhale in minutes.

In the afternoon, he gets another 1/3 cup with a tablespoon of wet food. It takes him longer to it this combo than purely kibble.

So I've determined that a mixture of wet and dry with larger kibble is a good combination. That and a Whimzee toothbrush chew per day, and Indy's teeth are amazing for his 8 years.

Oh, I like the idea of a wet food mixture for dinner. I'm always pressed for time in the AM, so I hate dealing with that, but at night, ohhh. And I like the dogs getting some wet food aka more liquid. I swear they don't drink enough. I may have to try this out.
