Something healthy to munch on?

Can he eat carrots? They are crunchy and will give him that chewing fix.

With all of those allergy constraints you sound like a good candidate for home cooking. That way you always know what he's getting and can eliminate any possible flair ups.

For some reason some dogs seem to LOVE carrots! I've heard they don't hurt dogs but that they don't have much in the way of nutritional value for them either.

Sadie wouldn't teeth on anything, I felt so sorry for her because she was obviously hurting but nothing interested her. I finally bought her a huge carrot since my parents sheltie liked them and she loved it! I had to cut it in half, it was too bigh for her

Annie Laurie is nuts about salad! She eats everything - lettuce, carrots, (no onions), broccoli, peas. It's a riot:lol:

I used to give him Kong with peanut butter frozen, buut he can't have the peanut butter anymore so I'm not sure what to fill it with. I thought about trying to stuff it with his usual raw food and freeze it, but I'm not sure how well that's gonna work.

Narmowen, thanks for the suggestions! I tried dried chicken breast, but unfortunately that didn't last very long and he just ate it within a few minutes. I'll see if I can get some marrow bones maybe. Do they have to be cooked? My pet store also sells some Kangaroo meat bones, but there's no info whatsoever on the label and I'm guessing it's smoked and not just dried which is bad too =/

I give both raw and cooked. (Raw in the winter, cooked in the summber because of flies). As long as the bones are large enough that the Sheltie can't crack them open (or get splinters off of them), they're fine.

The butcher (if you have one near) is the cheapest place to get large bones. I get mine marrow bones (long bones with the knuckles cut off), and the large knuckle bones. They adore them!

Kelly, that was very helpful. Thank you!

Chase gets frozen patties of organic minced chicken with veggies, fruit, kelp, honey, yogurt, cod liver oil, etc. It's completely natural and made by a local company. He's doing really well on it. When I first started him on it, he was throwing up frequently which my vet guessed was because of the bovine cartilage in it - so now they're producing my food orders without it and Chase is well :)

He could probably have carrot, but I'm not sure he'd be interested. When he was a puppy I mixed some grated carrot into his mince and he just ate around it =/ I'll give it a try though!

With big soup/marrow bones I'm always worried that he's gonna damage his teeth on them.. is that a concern at all?

I've never had a broken or damaged tooth from them, and I'm living with 5 Shelties right now, and there are 4 in the past.

I only have 1 with damaged/broken teeth, and that's because she tangled with a critter in a hollow stump.
