Special needs basketball dog

The use of the dog to carry the air tanks is genious! I have a friend on oxigen and she is older so can't go far because of wieght limitation. I'm going to share this article with her.

Very cool about using her dog to carry the oxygen tank, and very sad that she isn't able to play on the school's Special Olympics team. I would have to know more about the rationale for denying her to participate with the dog, before I could get too upset with Special Olympics. It's possible that they think it might be unsafe for the other players and the dog. Maybe there are too many players who already have balance issues and a dog on the court tethered to a player is just too much.

I can think of a lot of reasons also. I think it was likely poorly handled and now lawyers are involved so the chance of sitting down and working together has probably passed.

I do think it was pretty cool that her dog was helping her though. Not a Sheltie but then a Sheltie would likely be to fast :biggrin2: Service dogs never cease to amaze me. The different things they are helping with just keeps expanding, truly man's best friend.

Amazing that with the help of her dog this girl can do something that gives her a lot of pleasure. Dogs really are (wo)man's best friend. I do hope she can continue even without the Special Olympics.

the problem is just because it is special Olympics games does not mean game will not be heated/ rough and as physical as they can manage... someone tripping over the dog, oxygen tubing.... am sure nobody wants to have that responsibility...
could have saved girl a lot of heartache if they figured out rules before leading people on...

They offered to have her carry the oxygen on her own back during the game and Special Olympics still denied it. Sounds like someone in that chapter has a bug up somewhere.

I think it's great that she has a service dog that helps her to do things that she enjoys. Too bad people get in her way.
