Spray/wax for traction indoor

I haven't used anything like that but I am sure it couldn't hurt any too give it a shot and see how it works for her. I agree about making sure her paws are good and free of any excess fur so at least she will get good pad contact. I cant see it being any different then when football recievers spray there gloves to increase grip when it cold outside.

I know there's a lot of different mats out there, so not sure what you'll be running on. In my other training class, that was on mats, I always had to make sure to have Koji's nails cut and the fur on his pads had to be cut really short. Like, shove the scissors between the pads to get in there, short.

I had to cut Koji's nails twice a week and trim the hair the night before training.
If I slacked even one week, he'd be sliding around at times. So, that's my suggestion. Cut their nails, keep them trimmed and cut the hair off as much as possible on the feet (pad side, not the top of course, unless they have grinch feet, hehehe).

I would say maybe him having better traction was due to being used to it, but I'd see my friends cavvy and mini aussie sliding because their hair on their pads were long. The rest of the dogs were short-haired, so it didn't matter as much.

That's my two cents. I know nothing about all the other "carpet" like mats. The ones we had were those soft rubber kind that they now put in daycares. And I know nothing about sprays and waxes....lol, so no advice on that either.

Maybe I'll try the Musher's Secret...at least I would be able to get more use out of it (ie when it gets cold).

I'll see if I can't post another video tonight that might be a bit better. Less crappy handling.

Also, this place (where the trial is located) is apparently known for its really slippery flooring, so it seems like it might be even worse!

I finally got to watch the video. Yikes! I'd be worried about her hurting herself, she REALLY slid out a few times.

Do you think you can do a drop in at the facility with the mats and 1. test out cut fur on pads and 2. if you need spray/wax?

Also, where you were doing the seminar, is that where you're having the trial? Can you find out what type of matting the trial has? I am throwing all this out because I have never see Koji slide out like that, even if he's running full out and making tight turns. But obviously, it's probably not the same as what you were on.

Either way, good luck!

--We've actually trained on this floor before. It was where we originally took classes when we first moved here. It's slick. But we haven't been there in the past few months...and it would be weird if we showed up since we switched clubs.

--I usually try to keep their paw pads pretty clear of fur, especially before trials and seminars. I don't get all the way in there, but I can try. I just make sure the fur isn't covering any surface of the pad that touches the ground. Maybe that's not enough.

I should mention that on this stuff Bentley just runs really slowly and short strided. Like he doesn't know what to do!

Okay, a drop in might be weird. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do. I mean, here, my biggest worry was when we trialed in dirt. I know if the dirt affected his natural running/striding, I'd probably not choose that venue anymore, no matter how nice it is. However, if the majority of your trials are going to be indoors, it may be good to get them used to it. I mean, I see Edan's (and CJ's) runs and they look like they're fine on the mats. Could be just a matter of getting them used to it? Not sure. Also, other venues may have better matting. :)

Sigh. I say since you're signed up, go for it. Try the tacky stuff and see if it helps. If that works, awesome! If not, well, then you have to make a hard decision.

If there is no fur on their pads already (as in you keep it clipped), I'm thinking cutting more isn't going to help. I mean, I get the scissors in between the pads to cut the hair to below the pads, but it sounds like you're doing it well enough. Bummer!!

Good luck with whatever choice you make. Or just come to CA, we could use more dentists, lol.
