About a moth or so ago, our Rocky started to develop a limp in his left forward leg. We went to a vet checkup and X-rays were taken which showed nothing wrong. He was put on anti inflamatories and we brought him home. Two days later he couldn't even stand on his own. We called the vet and they gave us pain meds and antibiotics. Within 24 hours he was whining in pain and had no control over anything. We rushed him to the nearest vet hospital. Blood work and more X-rays were all normal. We got him out of the hospital the next morning and took him directly to our regular vet. After 4 hours of intense IV steroids and antibiotics, we decided to put him to sleep to end the suffering. The vet seems to think that it was some kind of neurological issue. We chose not to do an autopsy. Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

How awful for you and poor Rocky. I'm so sorry to read this. I have no experience with this but want to offer my condolences on your loss.

So sorry to read about your Rocky - but I would have chosen the same decision.

We have the ability to protect our pets from unnecessary pain, so we should use the opportunity and do not think of ourselves, although it is a huge loss .

So sorry for your loss. Did they check for insect bites- spiders & ticks can cause a limp, then quickly become a neurological issue. It is so hard to lose a sheltie and worse, not to know why. Blessings on your family.

I haven't experienced it but if you're on this side of the world I'd say paralysis tick, but then if you were on this side of the world a vet would usually check for that.
