Sudden Agression

I'm getting very worried about my 3 year old shelties behaviour. For about the past 18 months he has been food aggressive and didn't like other dogs near me if I have treats in my pocket or going near my bag if there is treats in it. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and was put on onsior for his joints. But in the past 6 weeks since his diagnosis he has been snappy with nearly every dog and has been lunging. He never lunged before only snapped at dogs who went near his treats.

People are saying maybe he is in pain but his aggression only started after he had his x ray 6 weeks ago and was put on pain medication. He was always such a sweet dog but now I can't trust him around other dogs anymore. Has anybody any thoughts on what might be causing a sudden change in his behavior?
 
I would really have a talk with the vet. Most changes in behavior like that are related to pain or not feeling quite up to par. Something is probably amiss healthwise. Might be some other health concern not even related. Good luck.
 
I agree, you need to talk to your vet. It could be side effects from the medication. One of my dogs tried Onsior - I think it was Tully and I think she got stomach upsets and it had no real benefit.

So the NSAID could be making him feel nauseous (is he eating more grass than normal, drinking more), behavioural changes can also be a side effect. Alternatively, the pain med may not be working. Unfortunately it may take another trip to the vet.
 
My Beckon, who was "normal" throughout his puppyhood, began to exhibit fear aggression around two. I took him to obedience class, which helped him manage it. However, he remains fear aggressive and shy with people. He never bites, just lunges and rushes.

Through our animal communicator, I learned that he doesn't know why hes fearful -- he just is. I know everything about his upbringing from birth. He was never abused, never had a bad experience with another dog.

I agree with everyone that you need to check everything medical. But it might just be how he is. Beckon just wanted us to be ok with him and not think he was a problem.
