Sweet Potatoes

Recently while at my boyfriends house I noticed his 7 year lab carrying around a large raw sweet potato.. Flint (the lab) loves sweet potatoes and my boyfriend says they are good for them because of all the antioxidants. So I baked a sweet potato and cut off just the end and opened it up for my sheltie girl and she gobbled it up! Normally she is a picky eater but when it came to this sweet potato there was no mercy. I was just wanting some opinions on whether or not I should incorporate small amounts of sweet potato into Lexi's diet? Any suggestions?

I wouldnt think it would hurt to feed her sweet potatoes.

Sweet potatoes are good for puppers. When Shanny was on a bland diet I used to give her them all the time. Dr told me they are good for them Many holistic, premium dog foods are made with them

Sweet potatoes are great for the dogs. You don't even have to cook them. Just cut one in quarters and let them at it. Your BF is correct they have lots of good stuff in them and they also have extra fiber and when fed raw they are good for their teeth. When you cook a sweet potato you do lose some if the nutrients in it so I'd feed them raw.
 
I never thought to feed my girls sweet potatos. I will have to try it and see if they like it. Thanks for sharing that.

Baby Food!!

My sister feeds my neice purated veggies, and one time while I was babysitting and feeding her I couldn't keep Caliber off of me...yup, I was feeding her sweet potatoes as well. I figured it wouldn't hurt him to have a spoonfull so I plopped it on the floor, and he ate it like there was no tomorrow. So now anytime I feed my neice...he's right there. He even ate peas once...and carrots. Last night I gave him a bit of cucumber and a bit of red pepper...didn't mind them one bit. I'm glad I don't have a fussy eater!!

Mine like sweet potatoes too, and they also enjoyed fresh pumpkin on halloween. They ate the peices we cut out for eyes and mouths.
 
Chinook is on BARF, so he eats raw fruits and veggies all the time. I have not found a favorite yet though with him. My last sheltie, he was in love with tomatoes! He would eat them off the tree! We had to put a fence around them so he would not get to them all. He also went crazy, and I mean crazy over mangos. He liked all fruit, but bananas. He was not on BARF but I would feed him fruits and veggies all the time. (Just never feed them onions, grapes or raisins)
 
I've been feeding Edan dried apples during his agility classes and he LOVES them.

I may try getting some Sweet Potatoes and making baked chips out of them. I'm always looking for something healthier to treat him with.
